Nemoria lixaria larvae have been reared on a wide array of host plant species, though their natural host plants are likely much more restricted, and may include oak as well as red maple. In our lab, we have reared Nemoria lixaria to adults on several oak species including white, scarlet, and red oak, as well as on Acer rubrum,Rhus typhina, Betula populifolia, Juglans nigra, Comptonia peregrina, Hypericum densiflorum, and Vaccinium myrtilloides. They have rejected Liquidambar styraciflua as a host plant in our rearing experiments.
